Why Be Stuck with Plain?

So I have this planner I carry in my purse.  It's a good size for writing everything in and the pages are kind of cute, but the cover is brown.  Brown, brown, brown. Blah.  And I never am sure which is the front.

The other day, I went to the quilt shop and was digging through the fat quarter bin and these fabrics begged to go home with me.

They wanted to cover up my plain brown planner!  Of course, the colors don't match the pages, but who cares?

With my awesome (not) measure skills, I mismeasured and made the cover too narrow for the planner.  I didn't figure in enough for the spiral binding.  Oh no!

Bias Tape to the Rescue!  I cut the poor cover in half and inserted this piece of bias tape on which I had stitched this sweet little vine pattern with my sewing machine.

A happy accident!  Even cuter than I had imagined.  And I would never have planned this because it would have been too much work!

Some elastic sewn in the seam holds the little book shut.

Isn't this just the cutest little stitch?
