Thrifted Decorating Book

"See what you can do with salvaged furniture from the attic or secondhand store!  Handy-man abilities are all it takes."

"There's treasure in the attic--don't let it go to waste.  Here an old-fashioned washstand became  useful record cabinet.  Towel rack and legs were removed, a box base added.  Paint, new hardware, top covering of adhesive-backed plastic complete the rejuvenation project."

I'm probably not going to be taking many suggestions from this Better Homes and Gardens Decorating Ideas book from 1960.

Sadly, covering the top of Grandma's oak washstand with Contac paper and painting it a garish orange was about as long lasting in beauty as was the re-purposed use of a 'handy' record cabinet.
