Vintage Dress Patterns--Vintage Thingy Thursday!

I love it when the Presbyterian Women have their rummage sale.
You never know what you'll find and it's super-duper cheap. You gather a whole armload of stuff and go to the table to pay and they look at your stuff--don't count it, just kinda take an eyeball inventory and say, "Oh....how about $3.00?" and you come home with a lamp and a bunch of books and a picture frame (with one little dent) and some kitchen ware and maybe a purse and jewelry and these fabulous 1957-1961 McCalls dress patterns!

I love looking through old sewing stuff, but had never really considered buying clothing patterns before. I've bought embroidery patterns and fabric and wooden spools and buttons. Maybe I've just never seen any old patterns! There was this big plastic bag full of patterns and I dug around and chose these. Upon arriving home I wondered why I hadn't bought the whole darn sack of them! They are so adorable! Will I make them? Probably not. But wouldn't tone of these be an awesome prom dress? And Molly's a junior this year...and she like vintage stuff....so you never know what miracle will happen!

I love old patterns and other vintage sewing supplies! You are so right about the church sales. The other weekend I went and I made a huge pile of stuff, which included boxes and boxes of old patterns, and the guy looks at it and says $8! I was thrilled. And then I went to another church sale maybe last weekend and I got a huge sewing box of wooden spools of thread, books of needles, unopened packages of trim and seam binding, etc for $1! Woohoo!

The old patterns are great! I picked up a few myself this week. I'm like you, I may never make them but the cover art would surely be cute for something!

You made out like a bandit! They'd be $* a piece these days and not nearly as nice.

Oh that sure would make a cute prom dress!
Funny, I was sewing earlier today and using a wooden spool of thread to do so. I thought about how nice the wooden ones were and how they just seem to work much better. I wish they still made them!
I'm happy you found such treasures!

Those are great! I've seen some really neat craft projects made with old sewing patterns, so you never know what you might come up with.

Oh my gosh, Dawn, come to my house! I bet I have at least fifty old pattens in a box in my storage room. Some are from when I was a little girl (they did have sewing machines then) :D Hm...never thought about anyone buying those old things.
