Vintage Thingy Thursday--Spice boxes

Please forgive the crookedness of this image--I was too lazy to go get something to climb on to take the picture of this item on top of my cabinets!

I found this at Not Necessarily New of course. Sarah and I were shopping over Spring break and I couldn't resist these chickens! They aren't usable--the tops are cracked and when I washed them, they lost a little more china stuff! But the chickens appealed to me and the price was cheep, cheep, cheep!

I see these little spice shakers around other places and it's always the same ones--salt, pepper, allspice and paprika. What's up with that? Anyone? Why not cinnamon, what about chives, what's wrong with garlic powder????

Thanks for visiting me today for Vintage Thingy Thursday! Now, go on. Go visit The Colorado Lady and see what other goodies are being shown off! If you want to play, sign up on Mr. Linky so others can come see your vintage treasures!

These are cute! I have a fondness for chickens myself and I would not use these as fear I would mess them up! What a great find. Have a great Easter Weekend.

You can't tell that there are imperfections in these. I think they are perfect!

I would love to have these on display with my other chicken items. I think that at the time these where made those four spices where used more than any other. I know those 4 spices were staples in my Mom's kitchen. Everything she cooked had paprika in it or allspice. I hardly ever use paprika.
