Grandma's Vintage House

I'm sure many of you think your Grandma's house is vintage--that's just the nature of them after all--but come with me to visit MY Grandma. She and my granddad are the reasons I'm such a junk collector. They passed the gene on to my mom, who passed it on to me! They are the reason I've bought stuff at auctions I don't need and have no idea what it is. They gave me the courage to bid on what no one else is bidding on so I can get a mystery box of great possibilities for just a little bit of money!

This is the chandelier in Grandma's living room. I love it!

Her house is filled with interesting stuff. Some people call some of it junk. In fact, I've called some of it junk myself. But then I grew up and learned that none of it is junk--it's fun and interesting!

I'm not going to show you the house--We'll do that another time perhaps. But come with me down to the basement!

When we were kids, this group of cousins and I were sent down here to play--perhaps to get us out from under foot??? It seems that these boys tried to make this place creepy--you know how boys are! That's me in the red shirt!

But anyway, there used to be a floor furnace hanging from the very low ceiling and it cast weird shadows all around. There's also a bedroom which I believe one of my uncles used. Too scary for me!

Come on, let's go. Maybe we can walk over to the Dairy Kreme for ice cream later!

I think the tin man left his hat on this old television set.

Was this perhaps Cocoa?

A collection of bottles and jars (and dead bugs). Who knows what they still hold?

Who is this woman? She was someone's unclaimed relative from an auction. That's sad, I think.

I've no idea what this interesting looking box contains. Probably poison now!

I'm kinda feeling sneezy. This place is a bit mildewy and basement-y and damp! Let's go back upstairs.

My aunt cleaned out this basement shortly after we took these pictures, so this 'good' junk is probably all gone by now. Truthfully--it was a bit moldy and mildewy. But fun to look through.

Hope you have a great Vintage Thingy Thursday. Go visit Suzanne, the Colorado Lady, to view more vintage thingies!

And go get an ice cream cone if you're so inclined!

I would love to explore that basement. I'm wondering if my daughters will ever consider my "junk" to be treasures? Love the new blog look, by the way!

I would love to explore this house, wearing a dust mask, of course! I am inspired to be a keeper and collector by my parents. You can't MOVE in their basement!
I hope you'll come by on Friday for my big book giveaway!

Nice trip without the spider webs ;)

I think the Abuela box might have held a laxative. My Spanish is very elementary but I think that's what i read.

Thanks for sharing!

I'm happy to find your blog. We have a few things in common (but I'm a lot older than you). I'm an auction nut...every weekend whether I need to or not. And it is all because of my Grandmother. She started my addiction. Grandma has passed on, but my blog is in honor of both my Grandmothers and I write about them. The title of my blog is Plant Some Roots meaning to do something in life so you can pass it on and leave a legacy. Sounds like our grandparents have done that for both of us. Blessings!

Love the photos and all of the "treasures"! When my grandmother died, my mother kept saying "let's just through it out" and I kept saying "no, I'll take it home" so I can relate!
