A quilt block

My mother-in-law, Bonnie makes a memory quilt for the grandkids when they graduate from High School.  Plain white blocks are handed out to family and they get to design their own block to be included on the quilt.

I always embroider mine--usually a favorite Bible verse or a quotation that fits the graduate.  This year I decided to do something different.

I uploaded the picture to the website BeFunky.com and converted it to a charcoal drawing.

Then I traced it onto my fabric square and spent last Saturday sewing.

I didn't fill in to many areas with color because I wanted it to look like a drawing.  I'm not sure I'm finished with this, but I'm happy with the way it turned out!

Hi Dawn,
Your quilt block looks great.
The crowns were just something I was fooling around with and I think most of the rust came off on my hands.. I guess if one was going to wear it a little satin spray varnish would do the trick. My hair usually looks messy so rust might add just the touch I was looking for!
JOY!

It looks so cute...and I love this idea! What a cool way to get the whole family involved! I know a family here in Dallas who wanted a new piece of art for a building, so they had each family member create a mosaic and then they had them all mounted together.

Great idea! Looks pretty cool to me. I am so not crafty and I am always jealous of anyone who can do such things!
