I'm afraid I'm buying all my relatives old junk piece by piece at garage sales! I bought this grey metal lunch box because it is exactly like the one my dad used to carry to work on the rig when I was a little girl. It's battered, it's worn, it's kinda ugly, but it triggered a memory, so into the car it went! I ust thought the thermos was kinda cute. And I've no idea where that Dutch printed napkin came from!
The Old Maid cards belonged to my husband's Memaw. He has lots of fond memories of playing Old Maid with his grandparents when he was a kid. He always knew when Grandpa would get the Old Maid because his whole head would turn red (he was bald) and he would laugh so hard no sound would come out! I guess it's a good deal the family doesn't gamble!

Big smile here...finding another VTT gal after my own heart! I have 2 tin lunch boxes too,the first silver one I bought because it was like the black one my Dad carried...and then of course I HAD to have the actual black one I found! I know YOU will agree with me...a girl could NEVER have enough Lunch boxes to remember her Dad!Happy VTT!
Neat old lunch pail! My dad didn't have one - he carried lunch bags packed by mom. But I was the one who decorated them! I would draw cartoon animals on them with big eyes - and he could always spot his lunch sack mixed in with the ones the other fellas brought and placed in the fridge along side his!
I remember that deck of Old Maid, loved playing too.
And lunch boxes were a necessity back then. My dad had one and I wish I could find my tartan plaid school lunch box.
I had those Old Maid cards. Sounds like your hubby has some great memories of them!
Love the Old Mail deck of cards :) brought back memories!
Funny you should post this. I've been unpacking boxes that we just stuck in an extra room after our move over a year ago. I discovered an old lunch box and several vintage thermos bottles. Love the blue and red in your thermos. I don't know how many games of Old Maid I played as a child. Still love to play.
Isn't it funny how we're attracted to the things that remind us of our childhood? I saw a sign in a thrift shop once, something to the effect of, "Grandma bought it, Mom sold it in a garage sale, and now we are buying it all back." So funny!
It's funny how some things can trigger sweet memories, and then of course, we have to have them. :). It's a wonderful event when that happens. Happy VTT and have a great weekend.
What a neat lunch box, my late FIL carried one just like it to work everyday for 20 yrs and it was banged and beat up, but he just said why buy a new one, it'll get banged up too. He worked at the local brick yard operating a bulldozer.
The old maid cards also brought back memories to me.

I have one of these lunchboxes as well, but mine isn't painted! The clasps are a bit dodgy, but I really like it.
What lovely treasures!!
i enjoyed reading your post..what FUN!!..that lunch box is adorable it would be a great place to store my fat quarters :)
That lunchbox is great...reminds me the one my uncle carried.
It looks like the lunch box has a "V" on it -- for VTT??????
I love old maid cards too.. I used to play with my siblings and cousins all the time.. thanks for sharing..
Amazing how these things bring nostalgic memories! I remember my sons little lunch boxes, all different superheros!

Did everyone's Dad carry this pail?
I'm thinking so!
I remember that particular deck too.
Oh golly, does that make me hopelessly old, or retro????
TOO FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!! MY HUBBY Has that exact same lunch box and HE STILL TAKES IT TO WORK EVERY NIGHT, the snap on the front is gone so he uses a HUGE SAFETY PIN to close it. HOW funny is that!
