Abandoned by Morpheus

At 2:30 am, it would ordinarily be safe to say that if one stays in bed and closes one's eyes, that perhaps eventually, one will return to the arms of Morpheus.  (That's the Greek God of Dreams for those of you who are wondering why I'm not sleeping with my husband, Les).

I worked my hardest to keep my eyes closed.  But the lights that seemed to turn around in circles behind my lids was distracting and I began to worry that it might be the beginnings of glaucoma.

I had a hymn running through my head and tried to pray.  But, sadly, only one line of the hymn kept repeating itself and try as I might, I couldn't seem to remember anymore of it.  So it irritated me so I was unable to concentrate on my prayer life.

The usual 'on my stomach, feet off the end of the bed, arms under pillow' position that always sends me off to sleep--just reminded me of the crick in my neck from sleeping that way.

After much tossing and turning and writhing and flopping (quietly so I wouldn't wake the spouse), I gave up.

And I was hungry and thirsty.  And I had an idea in my head for new journal entries for the Reading class.

I ate a spoonful of peanut butter, then dipped my spoon back in the jar (it is mine after all), because I decided I needed some honey to go with it--honey helps you sleep, didn't you know?  It's the miracle food.

And drank some water.

And made a few notes to myself about the journals.

Then took the Kindle Fire to the couch and curled up under a throw.

Reading makes me sleepy but when I'm reading a novel, I can't seem to find the end of the chapters until I get to the last one.  You ever have that problem?

So I read blogs.  Short and to the point.  And I could quit when I got sleepy enough.

Then Morpheus dragged me back to Slumberville and I went back to bed for a bit.  Where I slept with that weird kind of sleep when you jerk and wake yourself up--and hope you didn't wake up your spouse.

And then the alarm went off.  Getting ready for school was kinda crummy because I was sleepy and I looked awful.

Of course, today's the day the laptops had issues and I spent the entire day walking around the circulation desk and a table pushing keys and restarting them and trying to remember how I was logged onto each one and had I really installed the Java update or not.

So how was your day?

I saw your blog title and thought, "Poor Dawn had a night of insomnia. Either that or a weird dream about the Matrix movies."

I'm not sure which would be worse.

My day was mostly spent supervising exams. Yay.

Horrible night but great post! I have had a lot of details dancing around in my mind lately and they seem to go from a gentle waltz during the day to a full on Riverdance style production at night... Which is my long way of saying... I feel your pain!

YOu're such a great writer.

And thanks for explaining who/what Morpheus is. I knew it sounded familiar but this saved me from having to google it...

And thanks for the visual of how you sleep. I read a long time ago how dried cherries have something in them that make you tired and even though you are probably laughing, eating them right before bed works for me.
